TELEPHONE ADVICE FOR VSD MEMBERS

The VSD professional association offers free telephone advice for its members.

Here are three examples of consulting services that demonstrate the diversity of the industry:

Case 1: Mr. XY has a player agency and takes care of international soccer player transfers. He is in contact with an 18-year-old Iranian national player who would like to play for a German soccer club in one of the top leagues. He is an amateur and is initially aiming for a dual career, as he is not sure whether he is talented enough for a professional career. He is therefore not only looking for a suitable club, but also for a university that offers a Bachelor's degree in sports management. Mr. Müller turns to VSD for advice on the university landscape in Germany and to filter out a suitable university and course of study for his player

Case 2: Mr. XY's son suffered a serious skiing accident a few months ago and has been in hospital since the accident with spinal injuries that make it impossible for him to continue his almost completed sports management studies (Master's degree). Mr. Maier's son will be dependent on nursing care in the future and, tragically, will no longer be able to pursue employment in the sports business. Mr. Maier therefore turned to the professional association in order to be able to provide valid proof for his son's insurance of the amount of income that would have been customary in the market for a graduate sports manager in order to have an assessment basis for the pension. As the association has access to numerous studies on the income of sports managers, it was possible to calculate real earnings based on the specializations in the Master's degree course. Mr. Maier was extremely grateful for the support, without which his son would have been able to claim significantly less pension.

Case 3: Ms. XY is a qualified sports economist at a university in Franconia. After completing her degree, she worked for several years as a sports therapist in the rehabilitation sector, as her university studies included practical sports subjects and courses in rehabilitation sports and sports therapy in addition to economics. For two years, Ms. Schmidt also worked freelance for health insurance companies, which like to employ sports therapists for health courses for their policyholders. When a change in the law came into force some time ago, the health insurance company now required written proof of certified training as a sports therapist. Ms. Schmidt presented her diploma certificate, which was rejected by the health insurance company on the grounds that Ms. Schmidt was no longer allowed to give courses as a certified sports economist. The reference to her differentiated training with sports therapy was in vain. The VSD lobbied in this case and, together with the University of Franconia, lobbied health insurance companies to allow sports economists who have also studied sports therapy as part of their training to continue to be employed.
